From an original tapestry woven by Morris & Co. at Merton Abbey, Surrey, circa 1885. This ornate Woodpecker tapestry is unusual, due to the fact that it was one of the very few tapestries designed entirely by William Morris. The swirling leaves, the woodpecker and beautiful colours show the work of the famous 19th century British artist and designer to his full extent.
This beautiful tapestry is woven by skilled artisans in pure New Zealand wool, keeping alive the centuries old traditional weaving methods from generation to generation. This tapestry is fully lined incorporating a loops along the top for hanging with a Fleur de Lys near-wall hanging rod. Alternatively, this tapestry can be hung with a decorative wooden batten. Wonderful design from the ‘William Morris’ series of tapestries and suitable for a stairwell or large home.
