From a design originlly by Morris & Co produced at Merton Abbey, Surrey, in 1883. The intricate design was created by William Morris and was inspired by a real-life problem. In his garden at Kelmscott Manor, Morris tried to grow strawberries, but found that these were always being eaten by thrushes who managed to work their way under the netting. Morris allowed them to do so enjoying their efforts to remove the strawberries. Recalling their attempts, he designed this remarkable furnishing textile pattern, taken directly from the natural world. The gentle humour in this pattern helped to make it one of Morris_s most successful creations and is available today in two colourways. Jacquard woven, this fabric is finely detailed.
